Implementation Workshop for Emergency Departments

This workshop is essential prior to implementing TrendCare into an Emergency Department (ED), or for any site requiring re-training on how to use TrendCare effectively in an emergency department due to the turnover of key personnel. Some pre-workshop preparation meetings are required for the initial implementation of TrendCare into an emergency department. The topics covered in these meetings include, but not limited to; the emergency maintenance setup, the patient flow through the department and the HL7 messages generated.

Workshop Description

This is a two-day “Train the Trainer Workshop” comprehensive workshop covering the set up and use of the allocate staff screen for emergency departments, and the functions related to the inpatient shift data screen and the acuity processing screen for emergency departments. The focus is on the use of staffing areas relevant to ED patient types and the specific acuity indicators and indicator variables related to measuring patient acuity for emergency patients.

Learning Outcomes

  • An understanding of the staffing areas relevant to ED

  • An ability to identify all patient types relevant to ED

  • An ability to accurately categorise emergency patient types using the TrendCare acuity tool

  • An ability to use the Allocate Staff screen accurately in the emergency department

  • An ability to identify clinical hours utilised for activities other than patient care in the emergency department.

Workshop Delivery Methods

The workshop is best delivered on site, however an option to deliver remotely would be considered/negotiated if sufficient scoping work was completed between the TrendCare Consultants and the organisation beforehand.

  • An ability to measure nursing intensity per triage scale.

  • An ability to identify emergency department costs per DRG / HRG.
